While Art Basel is set to open its doors to the public this Thursday, visitors of the Miami Beach art festival have their current sights set on “Art Week”, a seven-day blitz of public art, pop-ups, and experiential activations. Operating at the helm of creative design, top luxury fashion house, Balenciaga, joined in on the festivities and used this week as an opportunity to unveil a highly anticipated collaboration with Russian artist and architect, Harry Nuriev at [Design Miami](https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/e9bcc0a57a5e05c1cc7fe4557ed0b4e3fb4937e0?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdesignmiami.com%2F&userId=3292164&signature=189cf66ccb0c3a24).

Just like the translucent vinyl that holds the piece together, this collaboration serves as a testament to Balenciaga’s creativity and ongoing environmental transparency, giving viewers a fresh take on the historically mundane Oblong Sofa.

Encased in transparent, scrapped vinyl, the upcycled sofa gives new life to damaged or otherwise unsellable garments from Balenciaga’s past seasons, and encourages sustainable design practices along the way. The patterns, cuts, and tags that make up the sofa’s designer-innards, are recognizably Balenciaga, making it a must-see for “hypebeasts” and aesthetes alike.
