At ZENITH, defying gravity isn’t a metaphor or a nod to a classic musical — it’s a patented reality. The DEFY Zero G stands alone in haute horlogerie as the only wristwatch equipped with a gimbal-mounted “Gravity Control” escapement. This mechanism neutralizes the pull of gravity on precision in real time.
Its innovation traces back to the marine chronometers that once guided explorers across uncharted seas. These instruments — vital for navigation — were suspended within gimbal-mounted cases to remain perfectly level aboard vessels rocked by wind and waves. ZENITH has taken years to perfect and miniaturize that principle — transforming an instrument of navigation into an object of art that orbits the wrist.
To celebrate its 160th anniversary, ZENITH unveils two new Defy Zero G limited editions, crafted entirely from sapphire — one in celestial blue, the other in fully transparent sapphire — each with just 10 pieces released worldwide.
Encased in 46mm of sculpted sapphire, the El Primero 8812S calibre reveals an openworked movement that showcases the brand’s mastery of precision and craftsmanship. Inside, a silicon escapement wheel, nickel-silicon anchor, and bridges shaped like ZENITH’s signature star spotlight the intricate mechanical design and attention to detail.
As testament to the brand’s precision, the El Primero 8812S calibre beats at a high frequency of 5 Hz, ensuring remarkable chronometric performance. The gyroscopic module’s counterweight surface is finely engraved to resemble a celestial body. Both DEFY Zero G Sapphire editions are paired with an integrated blue alligator leather strap, lined with rubber and secured by a titanium folding clasp.
Continuing the anniversary theme, the offset hours, minutes, and small seconds appear on a lapis lazuli dial with luminescent hour markers. Flecked with gold-colored pyrite, the deep blue dial evokes a starry night sky, and thanks to its natural composition and texture, each watch is truly one-of-a-kind.
Precise with groundbreaking engineering, the DEFY Zero G Sapphire defies convention as much as it does physics — reaffirming ZENITH’s legacy of innovation and mastery of time.
