MM6, Maison Margiela’s diffusion line, uses the latter’s ethos of deconstructed, industrial transformation, joins hands with Salomon, who works with designers, athletes, and engineers to shape “the future of sports and culture.” Both brands, which have worked together since 2022, are loved by nature lovers and metrosexuals alike for their movement-forward, functional pieces. Their latest collection unveils three shoes and a backpack across two drops.
The first half of the capsule, out October 22, is built around the XT-6, Salomon’s most iconic shoe. Designed for trail runners and since co-opted by urbanites, the silhouette has become a staple in gorpcore streetstyle. The collaboration shoe, XT-MM6, takes the essence of its predecessor and elevates it. Offered in a tapioca and violet or in deep green colorways, the XT-MM6 uses corseted laces rather than Salomon’s iconic drawstring.

The MM6 Cross-Derby is a dressier version of the XT-MM6. If the former model draws heavily from Salomon, the Cross-Derby’s design feels closer to Margiela’s universe. The Derby-style upper, crafted with a shiny black leather, makes the shoe read closer to a loafer than a sneaker. The shoe still reads like a Salomon design, though, returning to the French brand’s classic drawstring system and retaining a puffy athletic sole.
If the first drop focused on Salomon and MM6’s heritage, the final drop, out November 17, strives to be inventive. The highlighted item is the MM6 XT-Boot, an external sock with a bubble silhouette constructed with a padded shell and drawstring. Based on the hoodie of a puffer jacket, the MM6 XT-Boot remains protective from the elements with a couture flair. The boot, printed with both MM6 and Salomon’s logo, comes in vanilla ice, black, and dusty yellow.
The final shoe in the collection is the ACS PRO 3, a new interpretation of the ACS Pro. The outdoor performance shoe is known for its TPU exoskeleton. MM6’s interpretation of the shoe comes in two colorways: black and green gables, and cosmic sky, heron and violet tulip.
Both MM6 and Salomon have become known for their unique silhouettes, creating everyday staples with elevated twists and subversive utility. Their latest collection proves their prowess in creating inventive pieces that retain a functional sensibility.
