“I wanted a sense of balance and clarity. A wardrobe to bring precision and simplicity to dressing as we speed through the multiple perspectives and perpetual motion of all our lives,” says Givenchy Creative Director Sarah Burton. The luxury retail brand just hosted their WSS27 show at the Musée des Invalides in Paris, and the collection is anything but mundane in its simplicity.

The clothes weave seamlessly with the chaos of everyday life while remaining daring in their construction. Boldly-colored coats, maxi dresses subtly (and loudly) adorned with gold embellishments, off-the-shoulder dresses perfectly slit at the bottom, black halter dresses emboldened with minute (but blaring) yellow trimmings—Givenchy makes it clear that we don’t have to sacrifice expression for simplicity.

Whether or not she means to, Burton emphasizes contradiction with this collection. Her creative clarity emerges as she prioritizes precision over provocation, unveiling pieces that are impeccably constructed yet still audacious in their originality. Burton reorients us with the beauty of classic pieces, allowing them to transcend history by using them as the foundation for her innovative design process. The result is a collection of pieces that exemplify how traditional silhouettes can evolve over time.
