Jean Paul Gaultier presents its 2022 Haute Couture collection designed by Glenn Martens, the artistic director of Y/Project. Martens is the latest designer to step up to the plate to reinterpret the Jean Paul Gaultier couture universe. Preserving the Gaultier heritage, while casting in the rawness Y/Project is known for, this collection offers garments packed with historical references and dramatic allure.
First collaborating in 2008, Martens only a fresh graduate from the Royal Academy in Antwerp, the love affair began. Today, we celebrate Martens coming home to the Maison’s headquarters.
“This couture collection celebrates the heritage and savoir-faire of Jean Paul Gaultier,” explains Glenn Martens, creative director and founder of Y/Project. “We seldom get the chance to put together such elaborate silhouettes. For me, couture means pure beauty and elegance. Looks that have no business being on the street.”
Sensual, sassy and sexy, the collection references Gothic statues, Belle Époque fabrics, and Victorian crimson shades, demonstrating finesse without exaggeration.
