The recently debuted exhibition, Lightness of Form, is on display at Carpenters Workshop Gallery New York through October 18th 2026. In collaboration with British designer, Terence Woodgate, and Formula 1 engineer, John Barnard, Lightness of Form explores the seamless equilibrium of precision and ergonomics. In its formation of an introspective world, the selected works Carbon Chair, Chaise Lounge, and Wedge Desk find harmony in both structure and sculptural advancement. The artists focus on carbon fiber as the most essential component with its transformative nature and technological performance. With an element malleable from soft to rigid, the designers aim to visualize pieces as a weightless state without the loss of durability.

Known as one of the UK’s most respected industrial designers, Terence Woodgate focuses on the balance between abstract light and sculptural function, crafting pieces in their unadulturated form. Many of his private collections can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Museu d’Arts Decoratives in Barcelona.

With his innovation of the first carbon fiber Formula 1 car, John Barnard has redefined the modern form of Grand Prix vehicles. With over 20 years of designing for Formula 1, Barnard has stationed himself as a pioneer in the automotive world with a focus on dedicated craftsmanship and accuracy.

Terence Woodgate, Chaise Lounge

One of the focused selections, Chaise Lounge, illustrates motion of the human body in its singular form. Mirroring suspended aerodynamic design, the piece flows from one end to another in a flawless, structural line. Crafted with carbon fiber, Chaise Lounge displays a dynamic stability of support and subtlety without the noise of harsh edges and visual disruptions.

Terence Woodgate, Wedge Desk

In an almost perpendicular state, Wedge Desk embraces the rough nature of geometry through tension and rigor. Appearing as a metaphysical volume, this piece forges a dynamic synergy between mass and void.

Lightness of Form reflects the visionary dialogue between Woodgate and Barnard as their developments of clarity and accuracy position pieces within the liminal state of sculpture and beauty.
