Exploring the interplay of light, shadow, and woven texture, Bottega Veneta suspends leather from the ceiling as if it were jellyfish floating. At the brand’s Via Sant’Andrea boutique, the Italian maison—collaborating with Korean artist Kwangho Lee—has unveiled a new installation for Milan Design Week 2026. Titled “Lightful,” the installation marks the brand’s third collaboration with Lee and will also be featured at various activations across Milan.

“Lightful” is an amalgamation of Bottega Veneta’s distinguished leather artisanship and Lee’s penchant for material experimentation. Known for his tactile approach to traditional weaving, basketry, and chilbo enamelling, Lee has crafted suspended light sculptures using Bottega’s leather fettucce (strips). The sculptures, featuring bespoke black and green shades chosen by Creative Director Louise Trotter, each hold a unique and intriguing silhouette. Highlighting Lee’s innovative use of material, he visited the Bottega Veneta atelier in Montebello Vicentino to collaborate with the house’s artisans, resulting in a visual experience that shifts with the environment.

Lee has previously worked with the Italian brand during Trotter’s tenure, appearing at the Summer 2026 show space and the 2025 exhibition “Weaving the World: The Language of Intrecciato” in Seoul. Characterized by his ability to explore the potential of materials, he has worked with aluminum, marble, copper, enamel, steel, bundled rice, and garden hoses.

Both Bottega Veneta and Lee are distinguished by their dedication to weaving, making “Lightful” a natural milestone in their ongoing collaboration. The installation upholds the enduring legacy of traditional artisanal craftsmanship and celebrates the transformative potential of creative partnership.
