With the support of French heritage leather brand Maison Joseph Duclos, the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou acquired Italian artist Rosa Barba’s White Museum (Centre Pompidou) as part of the museum’s Lumière Fund with the Amis du Centre Pompidou. Investigating the concept of light as a medium and focus of art, the Lumière Fund showcases works beyond the confines of museum walls. Light transcends the barriers within institutions, inviting accessibility and discussion.
Barba’s work juxtaposes cinema and light with time and perception, challenging viewers to reconceive their idea of space and memory. At a recent solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Barba combines film, sound, and poetry into a conceptual performance probing the impact of humanity on the environment. In White Museum (Centre Pompidou), Barba reimagines light as architecture, with an active hand on the space around it.
Through their collaboration, Maison Joseph Duclos confirms their commitment to artistic creation and accessibility within the contemporary art community. With Barba’s piece opening, the museum will temporarily close, though White Museum (Centre Pompidou) will remain visible, highlighting the experience instead of the institution. Preservation of artistic exploration supersedes physical limitations, encouraging viewers to continue interacting with art.
