As the salacious French anti-proverb goes: Liberté, égalité, sensualité. Such is the motto that imbues Balenciaga’s Summer 2027 collection, a collection marked by its unpredictably indulgent pieces and uninhibited fabrication. Titled “Les Coraux de la Liberté” (The Corals of Liberty), the collection is unpredictable because the silhouettes are seemingly simple, yet uninhibited in how they are built upon. The result is a compendium of orthodox silhouettes that are not only elevated as a form of decoration but as a mode of expressing corporeal freedom.

Identifiable pieces forge their own language with this collection. A pink button-down ornamented with flowers in bloom; perfectly fitted monochromatic maxi dresses paired with colossal statement necklaces; an off-the-shoulder top made up of strands of jewels; a sheer T-shirt embellished with an unorthodox drop-waist. The pieces blur the line between refinement and absurdity, consisting of drop waists that are artfully displaced on perfectly tailored suits, exaggerated necklines that embolden casual blouses, and turtleneck dresses that are ripped to shreds, among various other ingenious designs. The collection is not just Couture for the sake of being Couture– it’s an example of how prototypical everyday apparel can become high art.

The collection is named after a textile sculpture by Aude Franjou, a monumental piece that anchors the entire collection. The piece “proposes an analogy—of a couture house not as mere physical structure, but as an entire ecosystem. Living, breathing, alive.” The sculpture amplifies Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s sentiments on clothing and corporeality, as its exuberance mirrors the collection's uninhibitedness.
Just as the clothes embody themes of the body in this collection, life emerges through Balenciaga's singular design approach.
