The passing of time is intangible, an indefinable concept, though we do our best to define it. We count the seconds, calculate the minutes, and try to give some sense to the great mysteries of the unknown. IWC Schaffhausen, leaders in luxury watchmaking since 1868, have now released the the Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium®, which endeavors to respect that great mystery.

The Swiss horological maison has always crafted their watches with delicacy and artistry, constantly being aware of the significance that time has in our lives. And, since 1998, the Portugieser Chronograph design has given a more sporty flair to the centurieslong legacy of IWC Schaffhausen. This newest edition is all black, sleek, and crafted from Ceratanium®, an extremely lightweight material developed and perfected by IWC Schaffhausen’s craftsmen.

Despite the lightweight nature of this creation, the titanium alloy material is scratch resistant and hard, contrasting delicacy with strength. Its distinctive metallic, dark finish, is complimented with all black features. It is understated, sleek, and gives the wearer a sense of control—control over how we use our time, the impact of what we do with our time, and how we react to time. Do we allow time's passage to fully dictate how we live? Or would it be more wise to form a partnership with the seconds, the minutes, and appreciate the time we have? The ticking of the clock will never stop, but how we fill those minuscule movements on a watch face is up to us; up to us to seize, or relinquish into the dark.
