In their most inanimate of senses, cities are seas of concrete. Skyscrapers tower with sterility. Bridges hang onto remaining. Roads are rudimentary for mere functionality, for capital, for the flow of labor. So, why does a city have the ability to possess such vibrance?

The answer is so simple that it glares—people. As animalistic as our sacks of flesh might be, a complex character bubbles beneath our rubbery skins. Our fingerprints and laughter. Our pursuing gaits. Our sensual stares. They each ornament the plain avenues, skyscrapers, and bridges into playgrounds that would otherwise be abandoned shacks of dirt and tumbleweed.

Character—it lives in each of us. It complicates utility as mystery. It renders the asexual as erotic. It announces the body as a map of listless escapades, perfectly distinct from another’s in its inimitable walk of life.

A study of characters sits at the centerfold of Tom Ford’s AW26 Campaign. Under the creative direction of Haider Ackermann, this season’s campaign shot by photographer Stuart Winecoff flares with a sultry intensity. Individuality furrows in the brows of scandalous foreplay. Opposite patterns clash and seduce one another against a clinical white background, begging existence to remain proud as it is. And where there is pride, there is rebellion—sensually fought for through the combative nature of human substance.

A minimalist color palette is tailored to each respective persona, which simply breathes before Winecoff's lens. The occasional pop of pale cerulean or deep violet conjures the models’ aware, bold presence—aware of who they are in their amorous indulgences. Whether lounging to judge, cruising for sex, or taunting the voyeur, each character insists on the unfiltered—on defiantly living as themselves without elaborate theatrics.

With Tom Ford FW26, wardrobe transcends ornamentation. Wardrobe is identity. Wardrobe brings a pandemonium of flirtatious character to the concrete we walk on. And each of us are eager to watch.
