Before someone is introduced by voice or action, clothing serves as the non-verbal maker of character. What we wear is an outward display of our inner world - an unspoken dialogue and the truest form of self-expression that all begins with our wardrobe. Since 1952, the iconic French fashion brand Chloé has embraced the innate intimacy between the clothes and their wearer’s individuality, offering free-spirited pieces that speak to all. Now, in 2026, Chemena Kamali, Chloé’s Creative Director, carries on the brand's iconic founding principles of offering women clothing that is both daring and comfortable in their Fall 2026 collection entitled Female Trouble

Inspired by the legacy of the  Chloé founder, Gaby Aghion, a visionary for women's fashion that is both practical and effortlessly chic, Female Trouble centers its design on the unrecognized art form of a woman choosing her outfit for the day, where artistic personalization begins. The collection embraces Chloé’s signature flair through a thoughtful balance of soft pastels, vibrant hues, and intentional texture. Denim and leather basque belts, billowing blouses, design-driven knits, lace-detailed tops, and statement jackets come together as a cohesive expression of individuality, confidence, and self-defined style.

Photographer Mark Kean captures the collection's manifesto through protrautre, framing the women and garments in a way that lets gesture and style speak to an untamed sensibility. This approach draws inspiration from Bettina Rheims’ portrait series of women in French prisons. In an effort to change the usual depiction of female inmates as confined, anonymous, and denied self-representation, Rheims took studio-like portraits in which women chose their clothing and poses. By granting them ownership over their appearance, the series sought to restore their unique feminine identity.

Through a portrait lens, curation of garments, and whimsical poses, the collection captures the distinctive presence of women. Female Trouble brings attention to the unrecognized art form of self-expression through women’s clothing, nodding to the founder and other artists who strive to claim feminine freedom. In doing so, Kamali, Kean, and every other creative who worked to support this collection reaffirm Chloé’s enduring belief that clothing is an intimate, daily act of individuality.
