Category 5 storm Hurricane Melissa made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica, this Tuesday, causing extensive damage, flooding, and claiming the lives of several citizens. The damage to the infrastructure and livelihoods in Jamaica is extensive, with several towns left completely destroyed. Less than 10 miles from the landfall point lies the Sav Inclusive school, the first school built by the Rockhouse Foundation, a foundation created by the Rockhouse Negril Jamaica, that has been refurbishing and transforming learning environments across the Negril area for the past 20 years.

After Hurricane Melissa, the school and the surrounding area have endured significant damage to school buildings, learning materials, and the homes of students and teachers. Constructed in 2024, Sav Inclusive was created for students with and without disabilities to learn together in a well-rounded, inclusive space. The Rockhouse Foundation has started a relief fund, aiming to provide direct assistance to teachers, students, and families; rebuilding classrooms and therapy spaces; replacing educational and therapeutic equipment; and restoring the environment where students once thrived.

As the community reels from the storm’s devastation, the Rockhouse Foundation strives to restore this treasured learning environment as soon as possible. If you would like to help this effort in donating to the relief fund, click the link here.
