To join the largest concentration of Frank Gehry- designed buildings in the world, a continuation of the design work done by the late architect, is the manifestation of the heartfelt designs he created for the Colburn in tandem with the campus mission of fostering creativity and artistic exchange: the construction of the new Terri and Jerry Kohl Hall.
The hall will be named after its leading donors and philanthropists. The 1,000-seat concert hall in-the-round will become an eye-catching expansion dedicated to a design that focuses on centering performances to enhance the campus and make the location even more of a hub for cultural and artistic exchange and creativity.

The hall's design promises a space that will enrich the performance capabilities of the musical talents that grace the venue: large-scale orchestra, dance, opera, jazz, etc. With that, the hall will become the permanent home for the Colburn Orchestra and will continuously feature performances from Colburn students and faculty, guest artists and ensembles, and rental clients. The beating heart of the space is designed with an expansive, light-filled entrance, while the outside features gardens on the rooftop and street level. The location will become an even more established cultural destination with its neighbors, Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad, the Music Center, and the MOCA, to continue the legacy of the area and its long-time role in fostering the arts.

To curate an intimate connection between audience and artists, the venue's layout prioritizes the adjustable acoustic elements and natural light, which are situated above the audience and reminiscent of clouds wafting above their heads. With the construction of the new venue, the campus continues to nurture its values of designing a space best fit for displaying performances of artistic mastery and passion that seeps through the very grounds of the institution as a whole.
