Nothing compares to a global event where people of every culture and background come together to celebrate and share art in its most liberating forms. Frieze is one such occasion, as it is an internationally renowned contemporary art fair that takes place across various cities, including London, Los Angeles, New York, and Seoul, bringing together artists, curators, and collectors. Here in sunny Los Angeles, creativity spans many mediums, but film remains the city’s most defining art form. That’s why it was only fitting that Silencio, a Parisian underground club inspired by the visionary filmmaker David Lynch, took up a three-day residency at The West Hollywood EDITION hotel as part of Frieze LA’s Art Week festivities.

David Lynch was one of Hollywood’s most visionary and beloved directors, creating films and television that have left a permanent mark on cinema, including Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet, Dune (1984), Twin Peaks, and most famously, Mulholland Drive. In Muholland Drive, the mysterious Club Silencio plays a crucial part in the film’s narrative, gaining an overwhelming fan base who are all fascinated by the nightclub’s cryptic allure. Because of the film’s praise, Lynch later brought the concept into reality by opening Silencio, a private club in Paris where creative professionals can form artistic dialogues.

What once was an underground and selective environment, Silencio opened its doors to the public for Frieze Los Angeles to pay homage to the very place that inspired Lynch in creating Mulholland Drive and the club itself. From February 24 through 26 at The West Hollywood EDITION, the occasion served as both a celebration of cinema and art and a tribute to Lynch’s singular creative legacy, collaborating with leading names across art, fashion, and music, with performances by Guy Gerber, VTSS, DJ Harvey, and Them Jeans.

To no surprise, the residency drew nearly 1,000 guests, filling the space with cinephiles and art lovers from around the world. Notable names in attendance included Miles Greenberg, Carmen D’Apollonio, Millie Bobby Brown, Shaun Ross, Alex Chapman, and Andre Herrero, among many others. All gathered to celebrate the enduring connection of art.
