The Swiss luxury watchmaker OMEGA is reputable for its advanced precision technology in the horological design space, and under the leadership of CEO Raynald Aeschlimann, the revolutionary maison introduces its latest masterpiece: the Constellation Observatory Collection. This new line sets a benchmark in the evolving world of haute horlogerie by becoming the first two-hand wristwatch to achieve the Master Chronometer certification.

The Constellation Observatory Collection is made complete by the marriage of industry-leading engineering and archival designs that date back to the mid 20th century. As Aeschlimann explains, “Heritage and innovation are not competing forces at OMEGA. The Constellation Observatory exists because our archive contains a specific design vocabulary that remains compelling…These [design] elements have been part of the collection’s identity across decades. We did not need to choose between preserving them and advancing the technology.”

OMEGA’s Constellation line has historically stood as a symbol of certified precision; however, until now, it required a second hand to achieve the highest level of chronometric certification. The Laboratoire de Précision—OMEGA’s own chronometer evaluation facility—has developed a new, acoustic testing method that evaluates precision through sound rather than the second hand. Over a 25-day testing period, this acoustic system documents a stream of data, continuously monitoring every tick, environmental condition, and positional change.

Aeschlimann elaborates: “Precision at OMEGA is a measurable commitment. Every Master Chronometer watch is tested against criteria defined by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology…what the Constellation Observatory introduces is a new way of demonstrating that precision to the wearer. This is a two-hand watch without a second hand…That is what precision means at OMEGA.”

In considering a breakthrough that’s as much about technological advancements as it is about eternal style, Aeschlimann says, “Timelessness, as I understand it now, is what happens when a watchmaker commits to specific standards and refuses to abandon them.”
