Sitting across historic Big Ben, separated by nothing other than the chilling waters of River Thames, lies London’s Marriott Hotel County Hall—one of England’s most quintessential getaways which has stood strong for nearly three decades now. Set in the former Greater London Council building in London’s South Bank territory, the historic office turned hotel encompasses over 240 guest rooms and suites across six floors, following the addition of 35 new river rooms earlier this year, bringing guests closer to London’s own skyline.

The property first opened in 1922 by King George V and Queen Mary and served as the headquarters of the local government body for over 60 years. But after the GLC was abolished in 1986, primarily due to political differences, the building sat empty before a Japanese firm acquired the vacant government office and transformed it into an entertainment and leisure center, featuring an aquarium, London Dungeon, and the Marriott Hotel, which opened in 1998.

A perfect blend of legacy and contemporary innovation, the London Marriott Hotel County Hall offers visitors a rich British experience, authentic to the hotel’s deep heritage and strong physical positioning. Featuring 72 deluxe rooms, 36 Big Ben View King Rooms, and many other suites, the hotel boasts views of some of London’s most memorable and royal landmarks, including the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.

With two restaurants on-site—Gillray’s Steakhouse and Gillray’s Bar—plus a 20th century historic library, offering visitors a special riverside afternoon tea service, and 12 dedicated event spaces, London Marriott Hotel County Hall has no shortage of dining and entertainment options. Other hotel amenities include a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, and an exclusive members-only club, dubbed the M Club, reserved for suite guests and Marriott Bonvoy members.
