Preceding the invention of the telephone, the lightbulb, and the automobile, Spanish luxury house Loewe celebrates 180 years of artistry and craft. Founded by a group of artisans in Madrid in 1846, Loewe began as a workshop on a cobblestone street and, almost two centuries later, has grown into a celebrated global fashion house anchored by its innovative mastery of leather.
To commemorate its 180th anniversary, the brand has released a new campaign featuring a capsule collection. Starring Julia Garner and GISELLE, along with Salma Abu Deif, Kara Wai, Sissy Spacek, and artist Kara Walker, the campaign—shot by Talia Chetrit—showcases iconic bags from the brand’s history, including the Flamenco clutch of the 1980s to the signature Puzzle Bag of 2015, and a new interpretation of the Amazona 180, which first debuted in 1975.

The capsule collection will be released online and in boutiques starting June 4. The collection ranges from bags and small leather accessories to ready-to-wear pieces, all saturated in Loewe’s storied heritage with a playful, experimental edge. Lion motifs appear throughout—in embroidery, leather intarsia, and charms—an homage to the brand’s name, which means “lion” in German.
Additionally, to complement both the capsule collection and campaign, the brand has released an animated film narrated by actor Antonio Banderas, guiding viewers through key moments in Loewe’s history, including its origins, its appointment as a supplier to the Spanish crown in 1905, and the creation of the LOEWE FOUNDATION. Detailing the house’s story, the 11th issue of Loewe Magazine, entitled “180 Years of Craft,” will be available in boutiques and select bookstores from June 15.
More than a reflection of its history, Loewe’s 180th anniversary is a testament to the brand’s evolution and commitment to the future of craft and design. As the second-oldest luxury fashion house in the world, Loewe champions and nurtures creative talent, upholding imagination as a powerful instrument for artistic expression.
