Tucked away in Tuscany’s coast, in the Maremma region of Italy, lies Hotel Il Pellicano – an elegant five-star boutique hotel that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. For six decades, Hotel Il Pellicano has embraced “la dolce vita,” serving as both a Tuscan retreat and highly sought-after travel destination, welcoming those who love quiet, barefoot luxury. And this weekend, dazzled with toasts in celebration of its birth, was no exception.

Originally founded by British aviator Michael Graham and his lover, American socialite Patsy Daszel, as their “home away from home,” in its early days, the hideaway served as a rotating haven for its fair share of notable guests, including English filmmaker Charlie Chaplin and various members of European royalty. After a few years of exclusive beauty, the pair officially transformed their Tuscan home into Il Pellicano, opening its doors to public visitors in 1965 and, in 1979, businessman Roberto Sciò purchased the property following a fabulous stay of his own – ushering a new wave of intimate luxury and Italian hospitality.

Today, the hotel continues to be overseen by Roberto’s daughter, Marie-Louise Sciò, and this weekend signified a new chapter for the hoteliers as Hotel Il Pellicano officially turned 60. From an evening aperitivo and barefoot breakfast on the beach, to a seaside feast and night full of dancing under the stars, close friends and long-time patrons of the resort gathered to celebrate a weekend full of artful leisure and casual elegance – a silent nod to the hotel’s golden era.

“Hotel Il Pellicano is more than just a hotel – it’s a living story, second home for so many of us,” Marie-Louise Sciò, chief executive and creative director of Pellicano Hotels Group, says, who hosted the anniversary events. “Celebrating 60 years surrounded by family and friends who’ve shaped its spirits was incredibly special.”

Beyond members of the Sciò family, among the esteemed guests were Maria Sharapova and Alexander Gilkes, Francesca Amfitheatrof and Ben Curwin, Edie Campbell and Ann Taylor, Miriam Leone and Paolo Carullo, Cass Bird and Jenna Lyons, Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff, Dree Hemingway and Nick Delli Santi, Gucci Westman and David Neville, and many, many more. Event designer Matthew Robbins produced the festivities.
