In 1965, Jean Dinh Van created a jewelry brand that aligned object with bodily function– sublimating everyday items for the purpose of adornment, the Parisian jewelry house quickly became iconoclastic for its use of jewels in the everyday. One of such paradigmatic pieces in dinh van Paris’s collection– Lame de Rasoir– honored Jean’s late father, who meticulously shaved with a Gilette razor every morning. In true punk style, the designer repurposed the mundane to become an ornament to the body. The transgressive nature of the piece quickly piqued the interest of a public hungry for innovation, and the design quickly became one sought after by the most glamorous names of the era.
This year, dinh van Paris has re-released the iconic design in its original version in yellow gold. To be presented on the dinh van signature chain, yellow gold or cord bracelets, or on chains with square cross sections. However, the design is currently exclusively offered in France– it will make for one of the ultimate souvenirs one might acquire during Paris Fashion Week or travels to France this summer.
