Director Éric Rohmer’s cinematic aesthetic and glamorous naturalism certified him as a standout artist amidst the French New Wave films in the late 1950s and early ‘60s. His films on love and relationships, often set in the sun-drenched South of France, captured the beauty and sensual nature of mid-summer. Rohmer’s influence has expanded far beyond the length of his career — most recently, in Chloé’s new high summer campaign, Chloé à la Plage.
In homage to Rohmer’s lyrical films, the collection explores the romanticism often associated with dreamy summer days. Whether lounging poolside or diving into the waves, Chloé equips every individual for a summer by the sea, Lacey skirts and dresses, coupled with elegant sandals and handwoven totes, embody a soft sensuality perfect for a rendezvous. For a late-night swim, one can throw on refined swimwear complemented by airy cotton pieces.
The campaign, shot by David Sims, features model, actress and longtime friend of the house, Claudia Schiffer. Schiffer naturally captures the youthful spirit and optimism of a French summer as she basks in the afternoon sun and unwinds in an outdoor hammock. “For me, summer is a feeling and a memory of escape, freedom, and lightness—and Claudia naturally brings to life this emotional connection to summer full of radiance and intimacy,” shares Creative Director Chemena Kamali.
The collection is now available on their website and in Chloé boutiques. At dedicated boutiques in Saint-Tropez, Capri and Monet Carlo, the pieces will be available throughout the summer season.
