Seattle Art Fair | Frye Art Museum
In an effort to expand cultural engagement within the Seattle community, the Seattle Art Fair and the Frye Art Museum have extended their partnership into 2019. The first year of the relationship sought to plant the seeds for the next generation of Seattle’s curators and led to the establishment of the Frye Art Museum Contemporary Council. 2018’s gift was used to fund an acquisition of works by Nigerian-born artist Toyin Ojih Odutola. The council was initially given a gift of $25,000 and has been given a subsequent $25,000 this year to continue expansion.
“The formation of our Contemporary Council and the acquisitions gift have created an exciting momentum in a relatively short period of time. The initial support from the Seattle Art Fair has already moved us beyond our expectations, so we are thrilled to build on this with additional acquisitions that reflect the abundance of artistic talent present in our region and on display at the Fair, and look forward to sharing these new works with our visitors. Both of the incredible works that were purchased last year will be on view at the Frye in 2019,” said Joseph Rosa, CEO/Frye Art Museum Director.
The Frye Art Museum is a free, public museum based in Seattle, and possesses approximately 1,500 works in its permanent collection. The Seattle Art Fair—which brings artists to the Pacific Northwest from international locales, such as Berlin, Kyoto, London, Milan, Paris, Stockholm, New York, and more—allows for the growth of the museum’s ever-growing collection.
