With the opening of their _Built To Scale_ Exhibition on December 14th from 5 to 8PM at Murmurs Gallery, each piece is a direct acknowledgement and language between global capitalism and an excessive stride towards normativity. Barker’s immersive exhibit transforms an archaic concept of what is deemed to be ‘normal’ into a revolutionary force that recontextualizes confinements and limitations.  Barker’s art pieces permeate the erasure of the disabled experience in a world that prioritizes normal and “able-bodied”. One piece in particular, giant plastic kitchen cabinets atop a kitchen island, acts as a beacon that illustrates the complex perspective of a disabled person comprehending a world without the proper accommodations. The world Barker has molded will be available for viewing until January 18, 2020.
