Ami Dang | Parted Plains

by Jake Carver

Since her debut album Hukam, South Asian-American vocalist, sitarist, producer, and composer Ami Dang has pushed the boundaries of trance, ambient, and electronic music. Her upcoming album, Parted Plains, from LEAVING Records, drops August 2nd. In anticipation for the album’s release, Dang is embarking on an expansive West Coast tour with Kendra Amalie. Parted Plains draws inspiration South Asian and Middle Eastern folktales to create new stories that are neither Eastern or Western, not traditional or contemporary. You can pre-order the album here.

Since Dang's debut album, Hukam, released back in 2011, the multi-genre multi-instrumentalist has garnered critical acclaim and admiration from artists like Grimes, who invited Dang to accompany her on her 2013 tour in Asia. Dang has shared bills with a variety of artists from a variety of genres, including Future Islands, Chairlift, A Hawk and A Hacksaw, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Beach House, Wye Oak, Lil B, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Dan Deacon. Stay Tuned.
