A late thursday night at the Troubadour gathers LA’s indie music fanatics, vegans, and beanie-wearers to the vintage rock and roll venue. On the cozier side, the crowd stands comfortably shoulder to shoulder, and a beautiful, contradictory mix of authenticity and superficiality fills the thick air.
The night starts with a killer opening by the tough, spunky, yet poetically youthful band Moontower. Their catchy beats and relatable fun lyrics warm up the crowd with their set.
The prolific art pop group Sure Sure took the stage soon after, with their consistently long hair, white t-shirts, and big smiles. Charlie Glick, guitarist and vocalist, confidently sports friendly face paint and a loose man bun, belting impressive, sing songy high notes and grooving while he strums. Chris Beachy, keyboardist and vocalist, engages with the audience in between keyboard trills with fun comments and quick anecdotes.
The group, which has been releasing music since 2014, has a range in their discography from classic indie tambourine jams to slightly experimental art pop singles. No matter what, their music always keeps an audience moving — whether that movement be a slow sway back and forth, or a Pulp Fiction hair-whipping freedom of physical expression.
