When people hear that someone is an entrepreneur, the first thing that pops into their minds is a visionary—a person with a one-of-a-kind idea who was lucky to figure it out before others. However, according to [Roberto Maggio](https://www.instagram.com/robertomaggio_ph/), a prominent Italian entrepreneur, the reality is different.
Maggio is an Italian tech industry mogul with more than 40 years of experience and several companies under his belt. His main line of business is a company that creates electronic payment support systems that are retailed worldwide. In addition, he is the CEO of a well-established company in Dubai that deals with the supply of hospital equipment, and he is the owner of a luxury yacht rental company in the Canary Islands.
As he explains, to become an entrepreneur, a person does need to have a passion and idea, but they also need to have the right dose of stubbornness to see it through to the end.
"What I know for sure is that it all started with my passion for technology. I would say that I was a child like everyone else, in a family like many others, but with one difference: a computer, given to me by my parents, and an incredible desire to know all its secrets," says Maggio. "This passion led me to develop, among the first in Italy, the first programs, the first websites, and to acquire those technical and managerial skills that allowed me to build a millionaire web service."
Still, Roberto Maggio argues that the main factor that decides if someone will become a successful entrepreneur is the events that shaped that person until the moment they decided to become an entrepreneur.
"There were several pushes that led me to the idea of becoming a businessman. First, incredible energy and ability to self-motivate and self-regulate, the ingredients that since I was a boy made me realize that I was much more productive than all my peers and that I could use this productivity to go far," says Maggio.
"Secondly, a strong character that made it clear to me that I was not inclined to work as 'someone's employee,' and that I needed to create something of my own to be responsible for, for better or for worse," he continues. "And last but not least, the curiosity to expand my knowledge more and more, a never-dormant hunger for new ideas, which has also influenced my nature as a globetrotter."
Roberto Maggio explains that these three things are the three elements that shaped him into the successful person that he is today. However, he adds that he is still being shaped every day by his actions, successful ventures, and failures.
"Entrepreneurship is a continuous learning process. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. I've been doing business for 40 years now, during which I acquired vast experience—an experience that has allowed me to be more successful with each new venture. However, with each new venture, I always learn something new."
