Indie singer songwriter, [Rainsford](https://www.instagram.com/rainsford/?hl=en) has released her latest single “2 Cents” along with visuals directed by frequent Flaunt collaborator [Dana Boulos](https://www.instagram.com/danaboulos/?hl=en). The track presents a more uptempo production for the usually downtempo R&B songstress. The new wave bopper collides with the stark video which takes on the Equus theme to [Irma Vep](https://cdn.onebauer.media/one/empire-tmdb/films/25355/images/vAHeRY2QkvHzzCZb3kDOEC1u5zJ.jpg?format=jpg&quality=50&ratio=16-9&resizeStyle=aspectfill&width=1300) levels as Rainsford dons a full latex catsuit with added [Busted Brand](https://bustedbrand.com/collections/all/products/widows-peak-hood) skull hood. The transgressive depiction is slick all at once provincially gorgeous, allowing for both the subject and surroundings to occupy their own space. To celebrate the drop we spoke with Rainsford about her 8 hour session in latex, making songs about joy, as well as her favorite smoothie. How important is fashion in regards to the image of Rainsford?** I'll be honest, wearing head to toe latex for 8 hours straight while riding a horse, in what started off as the heat of the day and eventually dropped to the cool chill of the desert, was not ideal.  But I did it to myself, and I think it was worth it.  It's also a huge pain to take on and off.  I didn't want to have to mess with it once it was on because you have to baby powder your whole bod and lube up the outside, so I went to the bathroom at my place at 8am and just didn't drink water all a day, so it held it together till we wrapped. **The songs up-tempo vibe is a change compared to your more old school RnB vibes. Is it something we will be hearing more often?** My tendency toward slower songs stems from the ease, which I write songs about sadness.  I find it much more difficult to write music when I'm happy – but I also don't want a catalogue bummers.  So I’m working on incorporating more joy in my lyrics (“2 Cents” is not lyrically joyful, but it sounds happy!). **What is the background on this track production wise? Who did you collaborate with?** I worked on this song with my good friend and amazing producer, Cameron Hale. He had been sitting on the bones of this track for a while. At the start of our session that specific day, he played me a bunch of ideas that he had already started. I was really drawn to what eventually turned into “2 Cents.” So once I had it in my ear, I wrote the lyrics and melody really quickly. We tracked the whole thing that day. The lyrics in the second half of verse 1 are, "hard to speak up when I’m so private. Give me two cents like I asked for it". **What music have you been listening to and inspired by lately with the quarantine?** My taste is all over the place.... Minimal Man, Les Paul, Chris & Cosey, Section 25, Strawberry Switchblade, Jim E-stack, Wet, Marvin Gaye, and Bea1991. **How have you been spending time in quarantine? What crafts have you picked up?** I've been painting a lot – pet portraits mostly! My cat, Jesus, is stoked about the extra attention. I’ve also been playing guitar, doing a lot of YouTube workout videos, and taking long walks with my sister through the hills in east LA.  I'm so thankful that we have a great little quaranteam group.  The night we found out we had to start social distancing, a few of our friends were hanging out so we figured we were already exposed to each other’s germs at that point already – so we've been having game night a few times a week too. **If you cook or bake, please give us a recipe!** Here is how to make my favorite green smoothie! I don't measure stuff, so.... sorry! * big hand full of kale * heaping spoonful of your favorite nut butter * a few seconds poor of whatever milk alternative you like - maybe full to around 2 inches from the bottom of the blender * 2 or 3 dates, pitted * half a frozen banana * dash of cinnamon or nutmeg * lots of ice * if you have healthy micro-nutrient stuff like Reishi Mushroom Powder, Maca Root or Ashwagandha Root you can add that stuff too but you don't have to obviously. * BLEND!
