Engineer, Agitator, Constructor: The Artist Reinvented

The exhibition will present the political engagement, fearless and groundbreaking visual experimentation, and utopian aspirations of artists in the early 20th century. On view December 13, 2020 – April 10, 2021.

The exhibition will highlight the concept of “restorative design” and present objects and concepts that offer strategies to help humans repair their relationship with their environments. On view November 21, 2020–Summer 2021.

Projects: Garrett Bradley

Presented as part of a multiyear partnership between The Museum of Modern Art and the Studio Museum in Harlem, the exhibition features a multichannel video installation, America (2019), which depicts Black figures whose lives have been lost to history.

The exhibition will showcase approximately 100 drawings made between 1948 and 1961 exclusively from the Museum’s collection. It looks across movements, geographies, and generations to highlight connections between diverse artists who embraced drawing to forge a new visual language in the aftermath of World War II.
