It seems like with each release, Mimi Webb keeps getting bigger and better. Hailing from Canterbury, Krent, the singer-songwriter has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, boasting an incredible vocal range strong enough to move mountains. Having taken piano lessons and teaching herself the guitar, the superstar making was made to perform and bless the masses with her energy.

Exploding onto the scene with her breakout smash hit “Before I Go,” which even saw Charli D’Amelio making her own TikTok video resulting in over 41 million views to date, Mimi followed it up with even greater pop ballads, songs that move you in the same way it moved her while writing it. Her lyrics are honest, vulnerable, and relatable, something people from all walks of life can appreciate.

Fast forward to today, Mimi has since been named VEVO DSCVR Artist To Watch 2022 and recently unleashed her highly-anticipated new EP titled Seven Shades of Heartbreak, recounting the 7 days of the week you go through after a breakup or having your heartbroken.

Flaunt caught up with Mimi via Zoom, who had just wrapped rehearsals for her ongoing tour. Read below as we discuss the release of her new EP, the inspiration behind the title, shooting the cover art, “Good Without” hitting 100 million streams, the visuals for “24/5” and “Dumb Love,” going back on tour, her new merch, and more!

Seven Shades of Heartbreak EP out now! How excited are you?

So, so excited. I can't wait to get it out and see what happens. I’ve been working on this for about 3 months,  but we’ve had it for a while so it's been sitting ready to get out.

Was this inspired by a real heartbreak?

Yeah, it’s what I've been through. All the songs are inspired by both those situations that I've been through. Originally, I wanted something about the shades of heartbreak. I wanted to really have a song that represents every single day that you go through throughout that breakup. Because some days you’d be sad. Some days you’d be happy that you’re out of it, then you’ll go back down to being sad. I really wanted to represent something that got that whole situation in a locker, so Seven Shades of Heartbreak worked really well. We had 6 songs and I said “no, it needs to be Seven Shades of Heartbreak. There’s 7 days a week, it needs to represent a whole week that you’ll be going through after a breakup.”

Does it represent the 7 stages you go through?

Yeah, each song represents a different stage and a different mood in that rollercoaster you go through. We’ve done this really cool creative behind it where each song has its own color, own ring, so it's really exciting to get that out for people to see the whole creative behind it as a whole.

What's your favorite color?

I really love the blue. The blue room was so incredible because it also matched my outfit. It was all blue, the lights were amazing. It really showed the light at the end of the tunnel, it represented “Halfway” really well.

What inspired the cover art?

The cover art was the green room and that represents the song “Lonely In Love.” That was the third set up we got to throughout the day when we were shooting. Straight away, we knew this was the cover. It felt so good, the room, the lights, it all looked incredible. I really loved the mirrors we had involved in it because it showed self-reflection and really represented all of that. Straight away we said, “this is the room. We’re very sold.” [laughs]

Love the song “24/5,” what inspired the video?

“24/5,” that was really what I wanted to say. I really wanted it to come across danger and toxic, I really wanted it to have that feel. It's all about the story of 7 days a week, but this person’s there 24 hours 5 days a week. On the weekends, they completely change, then Monday kicks back in and they’re straight back to wanting you back. For me, “24/5” really shows that toxic danger zone and really represents that. It's something you end up stuck in, you really don't know which way to go. The music video, I did it a bit of dancing in it so that was really fun. I had some girls in there, it was really fun to do some choreography with them. I had a scene with Kailum who was dancing with me, that was really fun to do that. Really very emotional. It’s all about knowing they treat you so badly, but you don't really know how to get out of it because you’re still so obsessed. [laughs]

You were serving looks, what inspired the outfits?

I really wanted there to be two different sides of me in the video. I wanted there to be the dark side and the light side. The sides where I’m feeling better now, the sides where I’m feeling sad, down, and just horrible. I really wanted those two Mimi Webb’s to be in the video and we represented that with the different setups and the outfits. That really helped get the whole meaning behind the song through. I really wanted a nice, chic look. I wanted to really represent those two different sides. The energies were completely different, you could tell they were different time zones and different feelings.

How’d it feel to have “Good Without” hit 100 millions streams on Spotify?

That was crazy! I could not believe it. I even  remember when releasing it, I thought “this was so incredible. I couldn't ask for anything more, the love for the track.” To see it go to 100 million, wow how crazy that that happened! I was so grateful, I couldn’t believe it.

Do you know which songs are going to go crazy before releasing?

When I wrote “Good Without,” that was the first song I wrote in 2021. I said “this is the song, it has to be!” I was so passionate. I went into the Zoom session feeling so inspired. As soon as I listened to it back, I knew it was going to work. It was the first time I really got in on TikTok as well with it, did a little teasing. It was really fun to see how that works and how the world opens up to it.

When did you get the idea for the wedding in “Dumb Love”?

I really wanted to do something fun, something where there’s loads of people in it. It’s something people can relate to because weddings are when you see the ex or one of the wedding guests you had a past with, it’s always that awkward moment. I really wanted to pick something people could relate to, something that's realistic. It was so much fun to do that, we had such a laugh with it. The cast was incredible, it was such a really good summer's day.

What’re you most excited about going back on tour?

I’m so excited to get on tour, it’s going to be so much fun. It’s the routine you get into where you can really find your feet within it. To see and hear everyone singing the new lyrics to the EP and learning all the new songs, I'm so excited to see that.

Talk about the fire new merch you have as well.

I’m so happy that’s out! I literally loved doing that, it was so much fun putting it together. I’m so excited, my hoodies and sets are on the way. Very excited. It was so much fun to create, I cannot wait to see people in it. Especially if they’re turning up to the shows in the merch, it’ll be so much fun.

How excited are you to perform the new project?

So so excited. I’m really nervous because it's going to be so exciting to see them singing the new songs and the new lyrics. I’ve been doing “Good Without,” “Dumb Love,” “24/5,” for a while now. I’m excited to see the new lyrics that they’ve learned and to see how it goes down really.

How do you get over your nerves?

I try to breathe and think right. “You’ve gotta sell it and it's going to be done.” Because when you start, it always goes quicker than you think it's going to go. Once you start, it’s finished, so I really wanted to soak it up as much as I could.

Goals for yourself at this point of your career?

Goals wise, I’d love to do the James Bond theme song. That's such a huge goal of mine. Just perform, get to stadiums, keep pushing. I want to get an album out next year. I really want to head for the skies. [laughs]

Anything else you want to let us know?

My tour next year is going to be around February time. My Europe and UK tour, very excited for that.
