Equal parts retro and modern, the track has a groove that’s both nostalgic and inventive as a funky guitar groove backs Dye’s intensely catchy vocals. Her presence behind the microphone is magnetic, strung together with dreamy melodies that feel somewhere between the imagined and real world. It also disguises heavy meanings and lyricism underneath her buoyant performance, inviting listeners to dance or cry with equal invitation.   Behind the song, she explains it “was inspired by the unhealthy lengths we will go to change yourself for a romantic partner. I specifically wanted to call out all of the fairy tales and Disney movies I grew up with which taught these messages. We end up putting our lovers on pedestals, making it impossible to ever be the perfect match for them.”  “Twenty Seven” comes alongside a kaleidoscopic music video soaked in pink and purple touches that give it a fascinating aesthetic across Las Vegas. The city feels tangible and quickly comes alive, from marquee landmarks to the more personal elements like an Elvis impersonator. She reveals that the rock icon in particular symbolizes a magical, mythological figure that everyone deserves but few will find in their chase of love. With more music planned for the coming months, Hello Lightfoot is prepared to continue expanding her overarching artistic vision that reimagines pop music through a fresh lens.
