Emerging from a modern looking, custom-wrapped, graphic yellow bus, models strutted down the runway for Brooklyn-based contemporary clothing brand Theophilio’s spring/summer 2026 runway presentation at New York Fashion Week. Exploring themes of cultural heritage and vibrant creative expression, Theophilio partnered with German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen to bring their show to life as they forwardly introduced their latest collection, titled RRIDIM.
The centerpiece of the runway was a 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz, a new electric minivan which meshes legacy with sustainability—wrapped in Theophilio’s signature spring/summer print—which served as both an immersive art piece and storytelling vehicle for the collection. Inspired by the iconic Volkswagen Microbus, the Volkswagen ID is intended to appeal to a new generation of renewable drivers with its diverse color options, futuristic design and all-electric mobility. Similarly to Theophilio, the Buzz embodies an adventurous spirit and an enthusiasm for forward living.
“RIDDIM is a celebration of movement, memory and the rhythm of the road,” says Edvin Thompson, founder and lead designer of Theophilio, who has a history of designing contemporary collections that merge concepts like nostalgia, culture and migration into vibrant expressions of style and storytelling. “This collection is inspired by my travels with friends, the long drives, quick stops and unforgettable moments where we left traces of ourselves everywhere we go.”
Born in Jamaica, Thompson is passionate about infusing his background into Theophilio, with his heritage widely considered to be his biggest influence for every design he creates. As seen through the colorful silhouettes and strikingly bold patterns, as well as airbrushed bodies, intense contouring, netted vests and braided wig caps, among other cultural elements, RIDDIM—which translates to “rythym” in Jamaican Patois—draws apparent inspiration from the Caribbean diaspora. The result is a fun and powerful observation of tradition, connection and community narration, weaving together fashion with mobility in a creative manner.
Attendees included Love Island Season 7 stars Olandria Carthen and Chelley Bissainthe, as well as American gymnast Jordan Chiles, Dominican actress Dascha Polanco and more.
