The Luxury Collection, an opulent assortment of hotels and resorts and part of Marriott International’s global portfolio, is a conduit for rich experiences and treasured memories. The brand’s Global Explorer program is an initiative that recognizes and works with leading cultural voices across the globe, to enhance these experiences. Playfulness meets sustenance in their beautiful collaboration with Laila Gohar, the newest global explorer.
Artist and chef, Laila Gohar, is recognized for using food as a medium of expression, crafting installations and pop-ups that play with the essence of food, fashion, and design. The artist affirms, “Paris is a city that continuously inspires me, and it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to collaborate with The Luxury Collection, at Prince de Galles.” Describing it as her “home away from home,” her frequent visits along with the traditional French patisserie, a staple in the country’s cultural landscape, inspired her vision. The artist loaned her imagination to a whimsical cake installation, placed in the hotel’s courtyard.
The 10-feet-tall sculpture, crafted from repurposed and recycled materials features a soft green and pink color palette with elegantly ‘piped’ details. The intentionally designed fixture reflects the adornments of French pastries, achieved with a cherry on top. Complementing her inedible masterpiece is its edible counterpart, a confectionery treat Gohar made in collaboration with the hotel’s pastry team; a cake featuring coconut with raspberry compote and pistachio buttercream, available for purchase at Bar 19.20.
In celebration of their partnership with Gohar, a courtyard cocktail event was held at the Prince de Galles in time for Paris Fashion Week. Guests found themselves surrounded by a world of cakes identical to Gohar's creation in the form of food, candles, and art, paired with champagne. Some of the guests hosted include Caroline de Maigret and Mercedes Salazar. The party was a commemoration of the artist's adoration for the city of love, and all that encompasses it.
The installation will be on display from September 28th - October 10th and the custom cakes are available to purchase until the end of the year.
