What does it mean to yearn? In the landscape of modern dating’s shallow and ever-evasive character, a new category of lover has emerged: one who craves intimacy, sensuality, vulnerability, and that be-all, end-all kind of connection with another human being. One who believes that love is fragmented, yet two souls intertwine in a fortuitous and eternal kinship. Scout Willis’ new single “It Ain’t Nothing” is for the yearners and lovers, a ballad to not only romance itself, but the quality of coveting it and believing in it until Earth’s end.
Accompanied by a cinematic take on the song’s identity, the music video follows Willis through a slow burn fantasy after she locks eyes with a mysterious interest (Thomas Doherty) at a party in a dreamlike Victorian mansion and nothing else seems to matter. Combining elements of noir and surrealism, the setting and wardrobe add to the tension and desire felt by the two characters, quite possibly a take on Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 Romeo + Juliet party scene, with Willis in an ethereal white gown and angel wings and Doherty decorated with a silver crown.
The release of this single finds Willis at a special time in her career, having just wrapped up a sold-out North American tour opening for indie folk band Kingfishr and a new album on the horizon.

Akin to desire, romance, pleasure, and longing, the piece illustrates the power in what’s left unsaid and the love found in the once unknown. As Willis states, “The song acts as a potent spell to the backdrop of this gorgeous cinematic tale, urging watchers to remember: it’s yours, it ain’t nothing.”
