To aid the ongoing relief needed since the Palisades and Eaton fires burned down thousands of homes and left tens of thousands of Angelenos displaced earlier this year, American luxury eyewear company Oliver Peoples has partnered with local contemporary artist Alex Israel to release a limited edition pair of sunglasses—a reprisal of the brand’s classic Oliver Sun frame. According to the company, 100 percent of proceeds will go towards fueling Steadfast LA Foundation’s Modular Housing Initiative, a nonprofit founded by Rick Caruso, committed to accelerating the rebuilding of Los Angeles through private and public donations.

Available in three distinct colorways—clear, tortoise and black—the Oliver Sun is intended to reflect the causalness of Los Angeles street style, with a twist of something fresh. Adding his own flair to the simplistic glass frames, Israel reimagines the classic Oliver Peoples’ logo—the geometric circle, triangle, square repetitive train—by layering a pop-inspired, colorful etched surf fin to the end, a motif synonymous with Los Angeles’ surf culture. “This project is deeply personal,” Israel says regarding the roots behind the collaboration. “As someone born and raised in Los Angeles, the rebuild means everything—it’s essential that we do what we can to support our community and keep the magic of this city alive.”

Shot by fashion photographer Justin Campbell inside Israel’s own Mid-City studio, the campaign features Australian model Miranda Kerr, DJ and music producer Diplo, and American actor-musician Eric Nam, all posing in front of one of Israel’s iconic sky backdrops—a large-scale oil on canvas painting illustrating Los Angeles’ pink sunset sky. Reflecting Los Angeles diverse and culturally rich heritage, it’s the creative synergy among the group that symbolizes the heartbeat of the city.

Since January, Steadfast LA has remained dedicated to rebuilding Los Angeles through its five core pillars: infrastructure, rebuilding, community, communication and resilience. In collaboration with several homebuilding companies, the organization aims to build over 100 modular homes at no cost to support qualified wildfire victims across Altadena, Malibu, Pasadena and Pacific Palisades. The limited edition Oliver Sun x Alex Israel is available for purchase, both online and at Oliver Peoples boutiques, now.
