There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when an artist stops trying to fit in and starts creating exactly what they want to hear. That’s the kind of energy mehro brings to the table—restless, honest, and completely untethered to expectation. What began as a reluctant step into music has transformed into a full-throttle creative pursuit, one sparked by a chance encounter with the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and fueled ever since by a refusal to stay in one lane. Since their 2020 debut with “perfume,” mehro has carved a path that’s entirely their own, one striking release at a time.
Their latest tracks, “lifesaver,” “you’re so pretty” and “lady parts and mannequins,” are a testament to just how far they’re willing to push their sound. “you’re so pretty” weaves serenity into chaos, with moments of soft introspection that erupt into electrifying guitar riffs and charged emotion. Meanwhile, “lady parts and mannequins” goes off the rails in the best way—heavy, surreal, and delightfully unpredictable, like a psychedelic rock opera crashing into a haunted art exhibit. With their latest release “lifesaver,” mehro blends ethereal vocals, atmospheric synths, and a slow-burning groove to create an emotional and immersive sonic journey that feels both intimate and expansive. It’s clear mehro isn’t interested in playing it safe; they’re here to challenge, to shift, and to keep listeners on their toes.
Beyond the music, there’s a strong visual pulse running through mehro’s work. The stop-motion video for “lady parts and mannequins,” crafted with Ontario artist Diane Lindo, adds another layer to their already immersive world. Dark, strange, and oddly playful, the video feels like a perfect extension of the track’s spirit. And with a recent tour alongside half•alive that hit major cities like New York, LA, and Nashville, mehro has proven they’re just as compelling live as they are in the studio. In this interview, we catch up with mehro to talk about creative risks, unexpected inspirations, and what it means to make music that breaks its own rules.
Did you always pursue the dream of being an artist, or did you ever think it was an impossible mission?
It was never a thought until it was my only thought. I never saw it as Mission Impossible starring Tom Cruise. I saw it as already being done. Like Mission Impossible starring Tom Cruise.
What has helped you the most during times when you felt the future was uncertain or when you were having a low mood?

You took a bold step with the musical video for “Lady Parts and Mannequins.” What inspired you to lean into that grittier, surreal vibe?
I wasn’t so much inspired as I was shown the possibility of how far we could go. So I leaned in, explored, and asked questions. Next thing I knew, the music video was born.
“You’re So Pretty” blends serenity with aggression in a really compelling way—what was your vision when creating this track?
Sometimes when I see true beauty, it makes me feel unworthy. My own unworthiness can make me angry.
Is your new song “Lifesaver” indicative of a new musical direction? How did this transition come to be?
The transition showed itself to me. I was in London when the song was written, and I think it was an embodiment of my subconscious interpreting and living in a new environment with so much history. It hit a chord that I had never accessed before.
What would you like your fans to feel when they listen to "Lifesaver" for the first time?
Swept away. Caught in a riptide. But knowing that they will make it back to shore
Touring with half•alive must’ve been exciting—can you name some standout moments from the tour for you?
Slowly becoming dear friends with every member of the crew and with every member of the band. Grateful for every person who was involved.
What’s next for mehro—are you already crafting the next era?
The era is crafting me
