Ethan Snoreck is the 19-year-old Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based electronic prodigy behind [**Whethan**](http://lifeofawallflower.whethan.com/). In earlier years, Whethan amassed recognition on SoundCloud with self-produced DJ sets, remixes, and original songs. Gaining early attention from the likes of Skrillex and Flux Pavilion, Ethan catapulted into the EDM scene and quickly acquired a loyal fan base. Infectious beats and synth-pop melodies define many of the hypnotic dance anthems in Snoreck’s roster. Whether he’s headlining a set at his hometown’s **Lollapalooza** or [breaking the internet](https://www.instagram.com/p/Bhh2u2jAQli/) at **Coachella** with Mason Ramsey \[Yodel Boy\], Ethan hopes to enlighten his fans with music that’s rumored to spike serotonin levels. With the release of his Album, “[**_Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1_**](https://whethan.lnk.to/V1PR),” we sat down with the techno prodigy to dissect the 8-track record:
**You got your foot in the music industry’s door with your work on Soundcloud; how have you grown as an artist and producer since?**
Since the Soundcloud days, I’ve been trying to expand and work with as many artists in as many genres that I can. I’ve also been forcing myself to stay out of my comfort zone and not stick to the same thing. But in general, my creative process hasn’t changed too much.
**Tell us about the inspirations behind, “Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1.”**
I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from house music as well as alternative electronic music for this project. It’s a collection of songs that I’ve made over the past couple of years that work well together and really create a good vibe.
**Is there a specific song or lyric that holds significant meaning to you?**
The “Be Like You” lyric really speaks to the idea of not wanting to be like anyone else or just do something because everyone else is doing it. I want to set new trends rather than follow them. Also, the “Together” lyric speaks to me because we all have that one person that no matter what you do with them, it’s just going to be a good time.
**What do you hope fans and listener’s take away from your 8-track release?**
I want people to walk away from this project in a better mood than they came in with. Although the project has a melancholy feel, I want to inspire people to be hopeful. I want to make people feel like they can achieve their dreams.
**How did you land on the name “Life of a Wallflower?”**
The idea of being a wallflower is being lonely and not really having anyone to dance with at a party or show. I personally feel connected to the message of being a wallflower. With this project, I wanted to bring all the wallflowers together and give all the people who can connect with that idea something to dance to.
**Born and raised in Chicago; how have your Midwestern roots shaped you as both an individual and musician?**
My upbringing in the Midwest really gave me the workaholic attitude. I think the Midwest shapes you into becoming a well-rounded individual. As a producer in Chicago, I was able to find friends who also produce and work in a similar manner as I do. We weren’t all from the same area, but we were able to come together in Chicago to learn and improve.
**You’ve accomplished quite a lot in your 19 years; what do you hope to further achieve in years to come?**
My main goal as an artist is to create great music that my fans can really connect to and vibe with. I also want to be able to continue traveling and playing my music for those fans. As a producer, I would love to get a #1 record, but ultimately I’m really looking forward to my artistic journey as I continue to grow musically and mature.
