Ten years ago Spanish brand [Camper](https://www.camper.com/en_US/) teamed up with German designer [Bernhard Willhelm](http://www.bernhardwillhelm.com) to create the Himalayan shoe. Today, their new collection is out and is a celebration of their tenth anniversary together. Inspired by the global sport that is football, Bernard designed three new styles for men and four for women which are a fashion take on the casual football socks. As well, he experiments with geometric prints and large-knit elastic yarn for this new collection.
We interviewed the designer in celebration of the anniversary below:
**What was the inspiration behind this latest collection?**
It has been a collaboration for 10 years. We created a BW x Camper classic the Himalayan trainer with the wave sole which all the new designs are based on. Camper has a new trainer factory in Vietnam. In order to make the shoes lighter we used a new sole construction (less material on the inside) and lighter more stable composite.New uppers include velcro sandals with woven bands based on Obi bands and also knitted socks uppers, parts with new materials, and knit technologies. (furry ‘goat ‘ fish skin structure, grading dyes, dip dye) All pretty new stuff.

**This being your 10th anniversary of the Himalayan shoe how did you see the rise of designer collabs has guided your work?**
The long socks have always been a trademark of BW aesthetics. I find it minimal, sexy, and also it gives a streamlined look to both men and women.
**There have been so many variations on your iconic shoes over the years why did you choose to go more streamline with the sock boots?**
It’s unisex, recognizable, and pretty forward in design. There's a relaxed attitude and a spiritual attitude maybe based on my visits to the monasteries in Kamakurra with my friend Taque who lives there. Also an interesting shape and a playfulness in graphics and colours /colour interaction. So you need a base of off white and black, then for the next season the colour comes in.
**Your most recent Spring collection had the Yogini undertones. Do you see your work veering more and more into athletic wear?**
Right now customers have included this sportiness already in their wardrobe. It’s the natural evolution of fashion sportswear - brands are mixing with high fashion. Its cute and best seen on cuties.
**Your work is often so colorful how did you come to deciding on a monochromatic pallet this season?**
The new collaboration is going to be featured with a select edit of pieces from Bernard, which makes this the first time that CamperLabs offers clothing. Starting on October 16th the Himalayan will be available at Camper’s three locations in Paris, London and New York City, online at [Camper.com](http://camper.com/), and at select retailers around the world.
