The door closed at precisely 7:45 PM. The lights on the Eiffel Tower went off precisely at 8 PM. Shortly thereafter, the music grew louder and louder. Like mechanical clockwork precision, everything functioned effortlessly just like an extremely well oil giant endeavor.
On the raise platform now covered with a thin pool of water with a black background, the models splashed as they stepped into the pool wearing their snakeskin cowboy western boots or golden leather high heels along with mostly black skin tight jeans, micro skirts, micro shorts coupled with white poet blouses and leather and white stripes double breasted jackets in mostly now familiar Saint Laurent looks.
To strike a different mood, the show started with a series of skin tight black denim pants paired with blouses, short jackets in red velvet or black crepe vest all with the required black scarf, silver headband and felt western hats. The cowboy boots added a feel of Americana in the collection as well as several of the looks that made the clothes feel more at home and less precious like a black sleeveless shirt with a high waist pants or a plain black tee-shirt paired with a tight denim pants, looks that don’t yell fashion. The strapless blue velvet with white star embroideries clearly was a salute to the stars and stripes.
As with previous seasons, the garments from the show can be easily be broken apart and find myriads of merchandise that can find many happy customers at the stores – the black jeans, the different versions of men’s jackets, the short dresses, and a all of the leather short sleeve shirts as well as easy evening clothes like a gold one shoulder brass dress. The show finale of ‘swimsuit’ one-pieces and overlaid sheer black and leopard print chiffon or the sheer dresses with shorts was slightly puzzling. Perhaps it was a fabulous garden pool party in the Midwest.
Odes to Yves Saint Laurent pervade the show with the white leather short sleeve safari top or the various tuxedo motifs now rendered in white double-breasted smoking and leather shorts.
