[Elle Baez](https://www.instagram.com/elle_baez/?hl=en) is here to be a voice for her people, representing for the Latin community the best she can. The rising star arrives with her own version of pop and soul, with a smooth, sultry voice that empowers all those who listen. Her mission? Be you, be, sexy, and above all, be confident.
Now, the singer-songwriter returns to unleash the official music video for her single “My Type,” premiered exclusively on Flaunt. The anthemic ballad is a female empowerment song, with a message to all the catcallers in the world to take a step back. Created over Zoom, “My Type” is produced by THRTN and inspired by modern day R&B artists such as Ella Mai and Kehlani — while adding her own Latin elements.
Speaking on the making of the record, Elle explains, “I grew up singing and dancing to Latin music as a child. We drew some inspiration from Alaina Castillo and Kali Uchis there to sprinkle it in, even some Carlos Santana with the guitar. I wanted the lyrics to have little moments of Spanish weaved into the English because that reflects me the most as a New Yorker with Latina blood.”
She continues, “I also wanted the track to reflect my daily life walking through Brooklyn so my fans can get a taste of my home. I thought, why not make it a sassy bop telling cat-calling players to take a step back? I really loved making it all come together and it's my first track that I fully vocally arranged/engineered on my own in my Brooklyn bedroom! My favorite part was adding in all my harmony layers and building a velvety sound.”
At the end of the day, Elle hopes "My Type" to be the track her fans play when they’re pounding the pavement and owning their power. Play this, whip your hair, keep on bopping on and focusing on your goals.
The visual itself, directed by Gabriella Concepcion, was shot in the streets and subways of Brooklyn. The irony lies in the fact that Elle was being cat-called left and right while shooting, but ultimately it was such a fun day. The video includes her all-time favorite Mexican spot, pulling from 90’s J-Lo and TLC music videos, as well as Tinashe’s “Save Room For Us” visual shot in Tokyo.
After “My Type,” Elle is set to release her debut EP titled _Bold Soul_ on November 19th to close out her 2021!
