The second annual installment of Dr. Martens Presents: Music & Film Series has been announced, and with it, a message of resilience, determination and hope. Curated by L.A.-based filmmaker Ali Roberto and NYC-based filmmaker Gabriel Gomez, this series hopes to highlight voices and creatives that are not generally heard in mainstream media, sharing their stories through a mini-documentary series.
“Music saved me,” says Ali Roberto. “Sure, I know there are a lot of people out there who say this, but I truly mean it. We’re facing a difficult and unprecedented time — for literally all of us — it makes sense that we’d turn to music for solace and collective experience. The hardest thing of all is to feel disconnected. I want to bring music back to people and create a platform for up and coming artists to be seen by weaving together a live performance with storytelling.”
These films share the stories of these artists as they navigate through these unprecedented times, not just surviving but thriving and innovating through the obstacles that life has thrown at them this year.
This year's series will feature Blimes and Gab, Cautious Clay, duendita, Frankie & The Witch Fingers, Lauren Ruth Ward, NEZ, Orion Sun, The Regrettes, Rosehardt, Stuyedeyed, Sunflower Bean, and Tolliver.
The series has already released four films featuring Ali Roberto, Gabriel Gomez, Lauren Ruth Ward and Rosehardt.
