To long for what eludes us, or for what we're told should belong to us—we are starved for meaning, for purpose, for a shape that feels livable. We’re starved—but we forget how to want anything other than what destroys us.
Jackson Katz, the force behind Brutus VIII, blends raw vulnerability with intense sound as he digs deeper into his subconscious, once again using music to wrestle with his own demons with his upcoming EP Do It For The Money. The project will be release off of new indie record label American Death, ran by Dutch Interior member, Davis Stewart and LA producer/engineer, Nicholas Noneman.
Katz takes on a deeply personal subject with his first single, “My Eating Disorder.” Produced and mixed by Hayden Ticehurst and mastered by Model/Actriz' Ruben Radlauer, the track gnaws at you long after it ends, a reminder that some hungers are never fed—they just mutate into something sharper. It’s a relentless examination of the ways we’re starved—not just for food, but for validation, for control, for something we can never quite possess.
He shares, “‘My Eating Disorder’ is a song exploring my (our) self-hatred and body image issues. I have dealt with some version of an eating disorder for as long as I can remember. I liked the idea of the narrator looking at the perfect body as the ‘new world,’ comparing the ideal self-love as ‘the Americas. I also think these sorts of body image problems are more common among men than what is typically discussed culturally. ’”
It’s less a confrontation than a confession laid bare against a foundation of industrial, EBM-inspired production, pummeling and abrasive, mirroring the gnawing feeling of body dysmorphia. By framing the ideal body as a colonized “new world,” Katz reveals how fantasies of perfection aren’t just distant—they’re violent, invasive, and internalized. The idealized version of ourselves becomes something we’re conditioned to pursue, an unreachable standard that demands sacrifice, leaving only the hollowing ache of unattainable perfection.
