There’s no canvas larger and perhaps more worthy of reinvigorated life than Battersea Power Station, a 42-acre historic landmark site in southwest London that’s currently undergoing massive transformation to become a world class mixed-use neighborhood destination, intended to live, work, play, and all things in between.

For context, Battersea Power Station served as a coal-fired power station that provided electricity to London from the 1930s up until its decommissioning in 1983. At its height, the station was responsible for producing nearly a fifth of London’s overall power supply, granting electricity to some of the city’s most distinguishable landmarks—including the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. But after sitting dormant in retirement for exactly three decades, an adaptive reuse project officially commenced in 2013—marking the rebirth of a magnificently historic build, which started with the restoration of the art deco structure, reconstruction of the station’s emblematic chimneys and general refurbishments of several historic elements.

The first phase of the redevelopment, Circus West Village, was completed in 2017, followed by the completion of The Power Station, a mixed-use building and the second phase of redevelopment which opened to the public in October 2022. The Power Station is also home to 254 apartments, which include 18 Sky Villas perched atop the Boiler House. Only a handful of these contemporary style apartment suites are available to purchase now. They are framed by a communal garden, Boiler House Square, and offer residents privacy and tranquillity in the sky, all while being an elevator ride away from everything below.

The next phase of construction, known as Phase 3C, will begin in early 2026, completing Electric Boulevard and adding 70,000 sq ft of new commercial space for shops, cafés, and restaurants. Phase 3C will also add two new Gehry Partners designed residential buildings comprising 306 new homes, one of which will include senior living apartments and the other, 122 new homes. This newest phase further extends Battersea Power Station’s objective of creating new facilities and opportunities for the local area, expanding the existing community and cultural programme with the addition of a 15,000 sq ft Community Hub.

When complete, Battersea Power Station is expected to welcome up to 25,000 residents and workers to enjoy its sleek live-work-play mantra to become one of London’s largest mixed-use destinations. In total, the master plan will encompass over 3 million square feet of commercial office space alongside new private and affordable homes, plus 250 retail offerings—ranging from shops, cafes and restaurants to theaters, hotels and medical centers—as well as 19 acres of public space, available both with river front access and with the addition of a six-acre green park.
