The epitome of the Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci has been known for his beautiful works of art and countless contributions towards the world of architecture and science. Hidden amongst these various triumphs was his talent in chemistry—a talent that would lay the foundation for the world of cosmetics as we know it today. The traveling exhibition titled _Leonardo Genius and Beauty_ will present Da Vinci’s notebooks, which showcase his “discoveries in the field of cosmetics, from his original methods of infusion for extracting fragrances to recipes for dyeing hair.” Academic researcher Maria Pirulli has collected Da Vinci’s numerous notebooks which demonstrate his innovative findings in the cosmetic field. From his creative methods of extracting smells and achieving the perfect distillation of aroma, to his recipes for natural hair lightening products, Leonardo Da Vinci went above and beyond in his quest for understanding and utilizing the very ingredients that nature has provided.
Created by the joint collaboration between Cosmoprof, Cosmetica Italia, and Accademia del Profumo, the exhibition will make a two-day stop in America before heading off for Milan. _Leonardo Genius and Beauty_ will be shown at the Italian Trade Commission townhouse located at 33 East 67th Street in NYC from September 18-19, 2019.
