Asante’s voice glides like a skipping stone over ripples of neo-soul. In contrast to his critically acclaimed releases last year, “Worth,” and “Fantasy,” Asante’s new tracks are stripped down, allowing us to hear his voice hum with yearning. After supporting Jay Prince at his London O’Meara show in 2018, and with support already flowing in from musicians like Tom Misch and record label owner Gilles Peterson, it’s evident we won’t be saying goodbye to Asante anytime soon.
