Brave New Worlds: Explorations of Space | Bodies, Space, and Energy

by Jake Carver

Palm Springs Art Museum’s Brave New Worlds: Explorations of Space exhibition is an investigation into the body’s relationship with the external world. Curated by Mara Gladstone, Associate Curator, the exhibition features five women artists, Kelly Akashi, Gisela Colon, Victoria Fu, Karen Lofgren, and Adee Roberson, each with a dedicated gallery of sculptures.

All the works on display expand our understanding of how bodies and movement can occupy space, and how space can enrich the body with new energies. The museum encourages attendees to trace their own movements alongside the sculptures on display. Said sculptures use three-dimensional space in conjunction with bold anti-monumentality to challenge the modernist, predominantly masculine art sensibilities that have dominated our understanding of 20th and 21st century abstraction.

The exhibit is on display from June 1 through December 15, 2019. For more information about Palm Springs Art Museum exhibitions, programs, and events, please visit or call (760) 322-4800.
