DJ, blogger, and artist Bip Ling texts us even though we sprinkled in some quotes from her Stylist interview and her W Magazine Q&A “Mooching with Charli XCX meant that we talked about boyz and how the new fragrances will help girls find there \[sic\] dream boy.” – Bip Ling\*.1 Ladies, fellas, take note: there, their, there is irrelevent if u kno mean. Nothing’s less cool than taking urself too seriously. I don’t even care if I type this properly because I gotta get my yar on so I can be a good mooch. Net flux n chill? Hell no? y not hulu and do u? jk I’m words on a page I will be be doin no one. My fav movie is Idiocracy. I googled dis rn “The years passed, mankind became stupider at a frightening rate. Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources where focused on conquering hair loss and prolonging erections.”\*.2 Bip Ling luvs burgers. Bip Ling gets it. She’s sharp af smart af. She sees every trope b4 everyone even notices their digijungian archetype. we follow her wherever she wanna go. Don’t stpp bip lin, not till u get ur own emoji. #### **Can you define “yar” for me? “Mooching”?** YAR means giving it Bip living it large, so bip that Fudging is now boring. mooching means the bipper bipture drinking pink champagne eating oysters and caviar YAR while riding blue ponies. #### **A lot of the images you post of yourself have this kind of sexiness that is taken to an extreme degree, which kind of takes the objectification of your image and makes the image the object instead—which is something that I think Cindy Sherman does quite well. Is this something you think about when crafting an image? To what extent are your selfies just selfies, and to what extent are they art?** I’m a feminist, oi oi. If it’s sexy that should be ok. It’s only when anyone frowns upon it then it becomes a cliché. Otherwise it’s just being young and looking fun and having fun. #### **Burgers have factored into your work quite a bip, what is the cultural significance of the burger to you? How is it different from chips, or chicken wings?** The Burger has da carnival colours innit YAR, YELLOW, GREEN, and RED, just a lil bip more fun dan da chips and chicken wings. #### **A lot of your work has this very consumerist ethos to it that is reminiscent of Andy Warhol—who I know you are a fan of—do you think that the consumer world and the art world should be separate, or is it all the same?**  It’s all the same, sell, sell, sell, sell, SELLL!!! And if art doesn’t get that, then it’s probably poo. #### **Why do you think blogs are important?** I never considered blogs to be important. I just created one as a way of documenting my ideas and my passion for art. I grew up in that environment. I followed my parent’s path to CSM and found the Internet to be my way of expressing my ideas. They are important if they are interesting! YAR ;D #### **What do you think are the benefits of growing up with the Internet? What are the negative aspects?** It was just a natural naïve aspect for me, so not contrived, and very innocent in that way.  Now it is seen more of an aggressively appropriate and regulated way of da expression yar soul. For me it was just the digital equivalent of a pen and paper. LOL. AND STICKERS OBZ. hehe #### **Is being famous important to you? If so why?** Fame is important if people care enough to think about it. An artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have, dur! #### **Do you think people in the spotlight have a public or social responsibility?** Yar we all do.. That is the human condition. Non? #### **If you could live in any other time period what would it be?** THE FUTURE OBZ. PLANET BING. #### **If you could style one celebrity who would it be?** I like people to chose their own look…fame is irrelevant. It’s a case of having a feeling or desire of how you want to be. It’s inspiring to see artists who naturally cultivate their own look, YAR! #### **Would you do your own reality show?** \[_Bip sends face with clear glasses emoji_\] #### **Your work, especially bipling.com, often references Tumblr culture which itself is a reference to the early days of Internet culture, and a mash-up of pop-culture and meme references. At this point in civilization, what do you think originality is?** Confidence and having your own ideas and realising them in your own unique way, we all love to scroll. Right? #### **What is your process like when first making a song?** Firstly I can smell it, the idea of the song is so strong that I have to do something about it. For example “Bip Burger,” I sniffed it out and then decided that I had to get tucked in. #### _Photographer_: Anna Victoria Best at annavictoriabest.com #### _Stylist_: Francesca Turner at francesca-turner.com #### _Hair_: Teddy Mitchell at teddymitchell.com using Kiehl’s Stylist Series #### _Makeup_: Nicola Moores at nicolamoores.com using M.A.C Cosmetics _Photography Assistant_: Ella Kent. #### **\*** [Smith, L. “Interview: Bip Ling,” _Stylist_, n.d.](http://www.stylist.co.uk/people/interviews-and-profiles/interview-bip-ling) #### **\*.1** [Petrarca, E. “Blogger and Artist Bip Ling Shares Her Social Secrets,” _W_, October 2015.](http://www.wmagazine.com/people/2015/10/bip-lim-instagram-tips/photos/) **\*.2** [Judge, M.
