Victoria Monét, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and producer, is raising the temperature for 2023 with the release of her new single, “Smoke,” featuring Lucky Daye. The track, available through RCA Records, was produced by Grammy-winning artist D’Mile in collaboration with Tim Suby and Yogi and… it’s hot. “Smoke” burns perfectly from start to finish like a nicely rolled blunt – wrapped in a funk-soaked bassline, packed with a scaldingly fervent horn section, the track is lit up by Daye and Monét’s scorchingly intimate harmonies.
Renowned for her stunning visual accompaniments, Monèt didn’t disappoint with the official music video for “Smoke.” Directed by Charlie Denis, the video is a shameless ode to the pleasures of herbal indulgence that finds Daye and Monét in surreal, seductive scenes reminiscent of a fever dream you don’t want to wake up from.
“Smoke is the beginning of a new era for me,” Monét says. “I am also really happy that this release is with collaborators I consider family! I can’t wait to elevate. I want all the smoke!”
And all the smoke she will have. “Smoke” marks the next chapter in Monét’s musical journey, following a series of successful single releases since her acclaimed solo project from 2020, Jaguar. Remixes featuring the likes of Bryson Tiller (“We Might Be Falling In Love (Duet)”) and Kehlani (“Touch Me”) have reaffirmed the enduring appeal of Jaguar, while tracks like “F.U.C.K.” and “Coastin’” have continued to build on her signature sound and style – accompanied by captivating visuals and warm tones, imbued with the vibrancy inherent in her West Coast roots.
Monét’s star is on the rise and burning bright, as evidenced by the announcement of her first-ever headlining show in Los Angeles. The show, which took place March 31st at the El Rey Theatre, sold out in under one minute – a testament to the star’s growing popularity. Through her multidimensional lyricism, Monét continuously pushes boundaries and her recent signing with RCA is even more of an indication that we’re in store for more new music, as we bask in the warmth of her rising star. With Summer approaching, Monèt continues to ride high on her success with no plans in sight of coming down.
