On the heels of her lauded performances through Europe opening for art electronic act Apparat, K Á R Y Y N made her live debut last night at the Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, captivating the crowd with tracks from her March album, _THE QUANTA SERIES._  Enigmatic is one word that encapsulates K Á R Y Y N’s performance. Intimate, too. Add haunting, and even seismic, and you might just get close to describing the opening act, which almost reached an hour duration before electronic quartet, The Acid, commenced their set. Lighting was low; only a few overhead beams of blue and white showered down. Sitting behind what appeared like a suspended feast of mixers, drum machines, sequencers and keyboards, the Alabama-born, Indiana-raised, Armenian-Syrian-American sang and crooned, offsetting the sonorous bass of songs like _Yajna,_ which shook the turn-of-the-century former cinema. While K Á R Y Y N’s stage set-up and presence was almost bewildering, the brief patter with the audience and exuded humility for the opportunity to play, reminded everyone that each person was taking part in something special.  K Á R Y Y N made waves not long ago when she composed the music for the opera, _Of Light,_ in Reykjavik, Iceland. Directed by Samantha Shay under the tutelage of iconic performance visionaire, Marina Abramović, Björk, who was in the audience, remarked the experience as “extremely nourishing.”
