_The cashmere-centric line was founded by Greg Chait in 2007 because he wanted an “awesome” blanket. Since then he has expanded into mens and womenswear, children’s toys, and of course, blankets._
#### _What does simplicity mean to you?_
This is, in my opinion, the greatest challenge in all of design. How does one get simplicity right? Really tough, but when it’s “right” it’s the most beautiful pinnacle.
#### _As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?_
I wanted to be a combo of James Bond (Sean Connery), meets _Top Gun_ (Maverick obviously), meets Minor Threat, meets Beastie Boys.
#### _David Bowie or David Hasselhoff?_
David Fincher.
#### _Favorite piece of clothing to wear on a day off?_
I wear the same stuff to work as I do on my day off.

#### _How is your relationship different inside and outside the studio?_
Inside the studio we have great respect for each other’s time, if we need to ask a question or for help we always say, “When you have time can you help me with this?” For us it is important to understand that we both have a lot of things to do. When we are out of the studio we just hang, literally just hang around all day together with no pressure.
#### _What type of music do you listen to when you are first in your workspace?_
Oldies: Nina Simone and Max Richter.
#### _What’s your favorite haunt for coffee or lunch close to your studio?_
Blue Bottle, Alfred In The Alley, Coffee Commissary.
#### _What are your most important rituals during your workday?_
Making coffee, and when a song we like plays, we sing it together.

#### _What’s the story with the paint splatters?_
It’s spontaneous and moves me in the moment. There’s no rhyme or reason, just a feeling. I don’t sketch a hat out before I start, I have a general idea of direction and start going, if an accident happens I always stop and look at it as a gift to maybe do something radically different. I wait and pray for mistakes.
#### _What type of music do you listen to when you are first in your workspace?_
Otis Redding on loop.
#### _What are your most important rituals during your workday?_
In the morning reading, writing, and meditating sets my work day up.
#### _At what time of day are you most creative?_
Early Morning.
#### _As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?_
_National Geographic_ photographer.

#### _Is there a specific aspect of California that influences your design aesthetic?_
I constantly go back to the nature of California. The beautiful indoor/outdoor lifestyles that we all lead, and the beautiful parks that we all have.
#### _You first started by creating a bag called La Tropezienne. What drove you to create that bag?_
I was contacted by a woman who had a bag company that she had closed about ten years previously, she invited me to her warehouse to go look at the leather and I fell in love with this one very natural vegetable-tanned Italian leather that she had, and so I initially just bought one skin and I brought it home with me and that’s when I created the Tropezienne; it was inspired by the actual material that I was playing around with.
#### _What’s your favorite haunt for coffee or lunch close to your studio?_
Proof Bakery for coffee and lunchtime baguette sandwiches.

The first 30 minutes after my first sip of coffee in the morning.

A bank robber/cowboy.

#### _Who taught you to craft shoes?_
I was taught the basics of shoe making by a gentleman named Emigdio Canales. Over the years I have had many mentors, who have taught me things that range from last/shoe mold developing, understanding quality of leather hides to different shoe making techniques. To this day I’m still learning about shoe making.
#### _Do you prefer a brunch or a dinner date?_
I prefer dinners, because people aren’t typically in a rush to leave. Dinners are at the end of our day and we can relax and enjoy the good food and great company.
#### _At what time of day are you most creative?_
For me it’s not a time of day, it has more to do with when I’m by myself at my studio. During work hours I deal with the daily issues of production, PR, sales, etc. When I’m by myself I can focus solely on what I love most about my job, which is developing new ideas.
#### _David Bowie or David Hasselhoff?_
For sure David Bowie, one of my all time favorite songs is “China Girl.”

#### _What is your favorite thing about Los Angeles?_
The access to diverse and exquisite landscapes is unbelievable. Within an hour drive or so, you can be at the beach, in snowcapped mountains or in the vast deserts!
#### _What are your most important rituals during your workday?_
Working on the shoes every day is my most important ritual. I almost enter a trance-like state, as there is so much repetitive action and the attention to detail must be so strong. I think of it like grooming a horse, as the rider and horse create powerful bonds with each other during the grooming process. I feel the same way with the shoes in that it creates a feeling of connectedness before sending them off on their adventures.
#### _At what time of day are you most creative?_
Late in the evening, for sure. When my mind is relaxed, I have the most creative output.
