When you start playing punk clubs at 15 and eventually rackup 17 million spotify streams, you aren't ever gonna be living in the slow lanes. Filipino-Australian art pop artist Chela (Chelsea Wheatley) has worked to innovate her sound bouncing between an elegant mashup of electronic synth heavy works. The musician has taken up the entirety of LA to make her home, between bouncing from the donuts to the Sweat Spot to Grand Central Market to a stretch in Hollenbeck we got her to give us a Weekend Recall.
In the morning I wake up to baby blue skies feeling thankful and I head to nearby Hollenbeck Park for some exercise.
In Hollenbeck Park there are two wild kittens who live in the bushes. I talk to them sometimes and call them my babies. One day they may let me pet them, maybe not.
I often have a healthy brunch at Silverlake’s MatchaBar, where I rack up member stars in order to eventually get a free drink. The rose matcha is my favourite.
Most days I’ll have a songwriting session, such as this one I had with upcoming superstar Zan at the Future Classic X Dropbox studios in Frogtown.
My everyday ALWAYS involves dessert, this is really important and essential for my life. I am often at Donut Friend (pictured). They have the greatest flavours, named after some of the greatest bands that ever lived. They will have my business forever.
This is a rehearsal for the ‘Heart O’ Hearts’ music video with my friends and dance extraordinaires Sierra Katina and Melissa Schade at my favourite dance studio in this world, Ryan Heffington’s Sweat Spot.
If I have it in me, I’ll take class there. This is usually on a Tuesday night (GROOV3 hip-hop), Wednesday night (contemporary jazz), and a Sunday daytime (contemporary jazz). The community of people who attend are a damn good bunch.
I love eating at Grand Central Market, the Filipino stall ‘Sari Sari’ in particular is TD4. I’m often there, sitting at the bar, slurping on a mango smoothie.
This is me backstage before a show at Zebulon, I usually stretch and meditate for optimal performance on stage!
There are so many excellent Mexican bars in Los Angeles, such as La Zona Rosa (pictured), which is in my neighbourhood. I recently drove past with my friend Jesse on the way home and we had a quick dance before bedtime.
